2011 Judges

Lynn Atkins

Mr. Atkins began as a photographer in the Air Force. After five years in the service, he worked as a lab tech for a studio in Roanoke developing and printing black and white film. He and his wife opened a studio in Roanoke, doing weddings, portraits, commercial and aerial photography. Their studio had a successful thirty-year run. Seven years ago Lyn moved the studio to Smith Mountain Lake and does location photography and work out of Atkins Lakeshore Gallery. “Art and I were really impressed with the high level of work at last year’s show. When Art called me to do it again, that was great,” says Mr. Atkins.

Art Cournoyer

Arthur Cournoyer is a retired professional photographer who lives in Glade Hill, VA. A native from Massachusetts, he owned and operated a full service photography studio in Salem, VA for nearly forty years. During his career, he served as President of the Virginia Professional Photographers, President of Southeastern Professional Photographers Association, and President of the Salem Rotary Club. He is also a times times Paul Harris Fellow.

Cournoyer has lectured, and judged in several state and national photography conventions, has received many state and national awards for his photography, served eighteen years as Print Salon Chairman for the Virginia Professional Photographers Association and holds three professional photography degrees. “It’s a pleasure and honor to judge your photo contest. [Lyn and I] hoped you would ask us back again this year,” says Mr. Cournoyer.
