Lake Writers meeting in Moneta Library
Lake Writers

The Lake Writers is a group of writers from around the Smith Mountain Lake area that was founded in 2000 and meets under the auspices of SMAC. The group meets the second and fourth Fridays of each month at 10:00 a.m. at the Moneta/Smith Mountain Lake Library. The group includes writers of fiction, nonfiction, drama, and poetry. Some are published writers, and some are aspiring to getting their work published.

A typical meeting will include a dozen or so writers. The first hour is usually spent sharing information on writing opportunities, contests, and getting published. In the second hour, any writer who wants to read from his or her work for 10-15 minutes is invited to read and receive an instant critique from the other writers.

The Lake Writers usually present two or three programs to the public each year. They also organize and run an annual writing contest for middle and high school students.

Anyone interested in writing is welcome to attend the meetings. For information, contact Jim Morrison at 721-1991, or EZWriter@att.net.
