FINE ARTS SCHOLARSHIP AWARD 2008

PURPOSE: In order to promote fine art studies in post-secondary education, Smith Mountain Arts
Council (SMAC) makes a monetary award available to students who have demonstrated a proficiency in
the visual or performing arts and who attend either Staunton River or Franklin County High Schools or are home-schooled and live within those school boundaries.

All students who are dedicated to pursuing a full time course of study at a two- or four-year college in the performing arts, or visual arts, or any other art-related talent, are encouraged to apply. SPECIFICS: A Fine Arts Award recipient must register as a full time freshman, whether at a 2- or 4- year college, carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester. If the recipient elects to attend a community college, a Fine Arts specialization needs to be indicated at the time of registration in order to qualify for the award.

This one time award of up to One Thousand Dollars ($1000), available to Franklin County, Staunton River and home-schooled seniors, will be forwarded directly to the chosen college or university on behalf of the recipient for tuition only.* Talent, achievement, financial need, potential and character, may all be considered in selecting the award recipients. If applications appear relatively equal, SMAC may grant multiple awards.

*If it is determined that a recipient’s financial aid is subject to a reduction as a result of SMAC’s financial award, SMAC may elect to arrange for payment to be applied to expenses in other areas. Each case will be handled individually.
