New Crusty Minstrels

The New Crusty Minstrels is an informal group of instrumentalists and vocalists who periodically stage concerts, typically in sing-along format, to benefit SML-area charities. It is known for the “Hootenanny” of 60’s music performed at TEP in late October of 2010 that raised over $16,000 for SML Good Neighbors.

Good Times at Margaritaville

May 18 and 19, 2011 (7pm)
SML YMCA Gym

Mark your calendar for “Good Times at Margaritaville,” on Friday, May 18 and also Saturday, May 19. It’s a sing along concert led by SML’s New Crusty Minstrels (Remember the group from the ‘60’s Hootenanny in late October, 2010?) to benefit both Lake Christian Ministries and SML Good Neighbors. This time the concert will feature favorites from Jimmy Buffet and The Beach Boys, beginning at 7 p.m. Revenues from ticket sales will be split between the charities. Better yet, all added donations made during the concerts will be doubled—by an anonymous patron of LCM and by laker/author David Baldacci for SML Good Neighbors. (Cash contributions will be split between the two and doubled by the benefactors, as will any checks written that evening to “Charity Benefit—Margaritaville.”)

The concert will be held at the SML YMCA gym. Link up with friends to fill a table for 8 or 10 (For table reservations, call Connie Canova at 297-6680; then bring picnic super and your favorite enjoy-at-the-beach beverage (Margaritas, anyone?) Hot Shots will also be grilling “Cheeseburgers in Paradise” at the entrance for those who prefer the ease of purchasing ready-to-eat meals.

You already know most of the words to these songs, but lyrics will be projected on the big screen to jog memories. Dress is flip flops, tropical prints or whatever beach wear you prefer. Tickets are $15 at The General Store, Radio Shack, SML Visitor Center and ShopRite beginning March 1. History suggests these shows will sell out quickly, so buy your tickets early to avoid disappointment. Questions? Call Nancy Woolley, 297-1199 or Jerry & Ferne Hale, 721-7222.
