The Smith Mountain Arts Council (SMAC), established in 1989, is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization and serves a large geographical area including Smith Mountain Lake and the surrounding counties of Franklin, Bedford, and Pittsylvania.
SMAC provides opportunities for cultural enrichment and pleasure in the visual, perforning and literary arts while securing resources and community support for community events. Arts Council activities are sponsored in part by the Virginia Commission of the Arts.

Primary Activities
John Faber Memorial Photography Contest
Annual show open to amateur and professional photographers.
The Art Show
This annual show features artists from southwestern Virginia with awards totaling over fifteen hundred dollars. the show covers all media.
Lake Writers and Literary Presentations
Lake Writers meet regularly to exchange writing information and share and critique their work. SMAC sponsors literary presentations and writing contests locally and in area schools.
Fine Arts Awards
Fine Arts awards are given to encourage local students to pursue careers in the arts. Fundraising includes a Round-Robin bridge tournament that has proved both highly successful and a lot of fun tor the area residents.
The Lakeside Singers
A four-part chorus performs concerts of popular and traditional music. Area residents are encouraged to participate.
The Noteables
Composed of fifteen women, this musical group entertains at health care facilities with a light-hearted repertoire.
B Sharps
A mixed chorus entertaining at various places around the Roanoke, Lynchburg, and Smith Mountain Lake area
Lake Players
A fellowship of those that love to act and those that love to see good acting, doing short plays, usually comedies, by-monthly
Special Events
SMAC promotes, sponsors and arranges funding for local events on a year-round basis. Events have included the Roanoke Symphony, jazz groups, dinner theatre, theatrical productions, in-home concerts, and concerts in the park.
Student Outreach
Sponsoring musical and drama presentations at local schools is a high priority for the Arts Council
