Paddy Dougherty of Lynchburg
and Tom Kimmel of Nashville
April 15, 2011

The SMAC special events committee presented the second coffee house of the season on April 15 at Trinity Ecumenical Parish Hall, with performances by Tom Kimmell and Paddy Dougherty. Each performed separately, and together. Paddy also featured a bass/cello player and a violinist.

The group provided a wonderful evening of music, sprinkled with Tom Kimmell’s poetry reading. Paddy performed many of her old favorites as well as several songs from her new CD.

Each performer was available after the performance to chat with the crowd, sign books or CDs and to answer questions.

Paddy had a successful career singing with national bluesman David Bromberg, then formed her own award-winning band and more recently turned to songwriting, recording and performing. Several of her songs have been arranged for full orchestra by legendary hit maker Charlie Calello and performed in concert with Rita Coolidge and The Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra. Paddy also promotes the efforts of children’s compositions through the national award-winning songwriting program Kid Pan Alley.

Tom Kimmel is best known as a songwriter. His compositions have been recorded by many popular artists, including Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Linda Ronstadt, Joe Cocker and Randy Travis. His songs have also been featured in television shows including Miami Vice, Touched By An Angel and Dawson’s Creek—and in films including Twins, Runaway Bride and Serendipity.
